About Muir Woods:

Admission to Muir Woods, which is administered by the National Park Service, cost $10.00 per person and children below the age group of 15 are allowed to enter for free. The Park does not charge an entry fee on few special occasions of the year like Veterans Day Weekend, National Public Lands Day, National Park Service Birthday, National Park Week Weekends, Presidents Day as well as on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It is a good idea to visit Muir Woods early in the morning. The Monument opens at 8 AM in the morning and visitors can continue to explore until sunset.

Most often, the limited parking area gets filled by 9.30 AM so it is good to get there early to have a trouble-free visit. Muir Woods is extremely crowded during holidays, free entry days and on weekends so if you do not want to get stuck in the crowd then choose less impacted days for your visit. Do not forget to check the weather conditions in advance and dress accordingly as Muir Woods is a coastal rainforest habitat. Muir Woods National Park was founded in the year 1908.

The redwood trees in this national park are somewhere between 600 to 800 years old whereas the oldest specimen is believed to be 1200 years old. Redwood trees can live up to 2200 years. Muir Woods is nearby many other popular North Bay tourist attractions. If you arrive early in the morning you should plan to visit Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Stinson Beach, and Sausalito.
